School holidays always meant a trip to see Nana and Pa in Melbourne. Taj and I would be dropped off at Gold Coast airport and picked up at the other end, knowing Nana had been sitting there waiting for hours to make sure she was there well before our flight arrived to collect us.
Taj and I would always be so excited to get to Nana and Pa’s place, knowing that we would have such fun with our cousins and would be spoilt rotten. But the one thing we looked forward to most was breakfast. At home, breakfast always had to be something relatively healthy… But at Nana and Pa’s place we got to choose whatever we wanted.
At the grocery store there would be strong debate as to whether we would go for fruit loops or coco-pops (more often than not coco-pops were the winners) and Nana would buy us the biggest box they had for sale, sending us home with the leftovers at the end of the trip.
I’m sure it drove Mum crazy to see us eating chocolate for breakfast but we loved every minute of it and looked forward to it every time!
